Merry Christmas 2009

Well as promised from last year I am here again...approximately one year later since my last entry.

The year 2009 has been busy. Everybody talking about the financial crisis and Iceland is probably the most vulnerable of all the Europe states. But Iceland will rice again no doubt about it. I can not say that the "crisis" has affected me this year, quite the contrary. I am sailing through the rough sea of finance and I can see land ahead. At forty I expect to have some money left each month and should be able to buy my own house when I receive my first pension payment.

In the beginning of this year a girl moved in with her two kids...and she is still here :) Now we have gotten a bigger place. I am very happy with the current development. I get to see football and sleep in. Who can ask for more.

Workwize the year has been interesting. I have been very busy trying to find the correct customer so I can fulfill the annual plan. The outcome is pretty good if you take the financial crisis into the equation. Me and my esteemed coleague (not sure on the spelling) have been among the best in the Nordcs and actually the Nordics have as a whole done very well compared to 2008.
This year I have visited approx 300 different companies of all sizes. I have driven roughly 45 thousand kilometers, not counting the days where I just drove to the office. That is an accomplishment because Denmark is hardly the biggest country in the world...half the size of Iceland.
My car however has seen better days and got a bit bruised last week in a close encounter of a roadrail. Luckily there were no injuries, except for the drivers pride, who had just told his coworker that he is an expert driver in snow and ice.

Me and the kids went to Sweden during the summer vacation. Drove first to Gothenburg to visit family, then to my good friend Helgi in Stockholm and finally we finished the trip in Malmö where I got a substantial whisky training and the banging head the day after. We managed to put 2000 km behind us and maybe a bit to long drive for the kids.

Then Autumn banked on the door. Me and Heida decided that a 2 room appartment was a bit to small. We found a bigger place close to the city center. We are very happy here and feel "at home". Now when I write this the place has gotten all the necessary Christmas decoration and the smell of Christmas dinner is in the air...Christmas is nigh.

The year has not been out sacrifices. In December my ex brother in law and a good friend passed away. It was quite a shock. He died in a diving accident in Iceland. I knew him very well and we had to few but very good times toghether. He took me along to the only fishingtrip I have ever had. This was in high up in Iceland in the beginning of Summer several years ago. We stood there in the water and it was snowing. It was a memorable trip that I cherish. He was very inventive and could think outside the box. I really liked his idea of the souce pot, where the pot was tiltet a little bit and then on the edge of the pot was a whisker that made sure that the sauce would not burn over. Very good idea for a kitchen enthusiast like me.

I look forward to the year 2010, where Iceland will do good deeds in sports and England will win the world championship in soccer...that is all I ask for...and well occasional duck breast on my plate with a fine red.

I wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year...Christmas cards are not sent this year because I do not want to pollute the world and ease the mailmans burden.

Take care out there.

Arnar Thor.

here I go again.

Well, looks like someone does read my English blog after all. Just had a little reminder recently. I do blog somewhat more on my Icelandic version, http://addi_thor.blogspot.com, but I guess that limits the group of readers down to 300 thousand give or take.

Anyway, I am still here, fairly sane, moderately poor and still weighing less then 0.1 ton. So life is not good, not bad, not really anything it just is.

I am still at UPS...come to think of it I had not started at UPS when I wrote my last entry...so Hey!!! I have a job at UPS as an IT consultant...which is a fancy name of a persion doing tech support. The job is nice, a lot of traveling, which is sometimes rather tirering (not sure on the spelling but ironically enough all the travels are actually wearing down the tires on my car).

So, lately I have been looking for another job closer to Copenhagen, since Solrun has moved there with the kids. I will wait and see.

Please comment if you have read this dribble and give me some ideas to write some more...otherwise see you next year.

Second blog of the month

Well, looks like I am blogging only twice a month.

Still looking for a job. Have been to several job interviews this month. Possible 2 jobs in sight...one in Copenhagen and one on an island up north called Iceland. I sincerely hope I will get something positive before the end of this month...I hate this situation...

Anyway, the sun occasionally comes up in the morning and I still have enough change to buy coffee...I do not need much...

I have absolutely nothing more to say...welcome comments if you have one to spare.

Take care,

Arnar Thor

Happy new year, merry Valentines day and all that Jazz

OK,

I am back! Well, OK there seems to be someone, who reads this dribble so I thought I might as well continue. Thank you for your comments.

Well, since I wrote the last time I finally managed to finish my studies so I am an official MSc in IT, which basically means I can run Internet Explorer and form an oppinion about it.

The thesis was accepted. I did not get the highest grade, but the two companies involved seem to like it and well that was a reward to me.

So I am sitting here watching my favorite football team (US readers soccer team) Liverpool playing against Barcelona. Fun to watch even though I am writing the blog at the same time. I am one of the rare few multitasking men available out there I am told. I probably have connected to the otherwise silent X chromosome...who knows.

Anyway, the current situation is that I am looking for work, a paid work. I am almost willing to do html code for food or pose naked in front of an arts class.

That is it for now...take care everyone and sorry for the long pause...it will not happen again...I hope...keep them comments coming!!!

take care and remember the little people,

Arnar Thor

Stopping with the English Blog?

Since there does not seem to be anyone reading this I am thinking about dropping this blog and just blog in Icelandic.

Any comments? If not I encourage you to learn Icelandic.

Take care

The future

I had a talk with my aunt today and she got me thinking about the future. I am so not cut out for this world of marketing, project management etc. I need to do something completely different. Do not get me wrong I am not going to stop the thesis. I will deliver this fucker on december 1. Sorry I did not write December with a capital D.

Anyway I have two weeks before I hand in my thesis. Probably not the best one written, but I will hand it in and hope for the best. My tutor is pretty optimistic, but then again he has not seen it yet. I will send him a draft on Monday, see rememberd the capital first letter this time. Why on earth do months and weekdays start with capital letters, but summer, winter, autumn and spring do not? Well, things that go through your had.

Anyway, yes I like using the word "anyway", I am on track and if God and luck is with me I will be very close to finishing on Monday, yes did it again.

Take care my few and very dear non Icelandic speaking readers. It would be nice to get some comments just to see if I should be bothering with an English blog.

Take care,

Arnar Thor
